Career Opportunity: Software Engineer
About the Opportunity
We are developing a groundbreaking quantum computing hardware platform that goes far beyond the capabilities of silicon-based classical computer hardware. The quantum computer’s core foundation relies on a suite of uniquely integrated hardware/software toolsets. Many of our development efforts are greenfield, with the unique opportunity to research, define and implement new architectures and solutions. As part of a dynamic and talented team, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute in one or several advanced areas of system development described below.
- Proficient in at least one of the following languages: Python, C, C++, C#, Rust, Go, Java
- Ability to learn new programming languages, tools, and frameworks
- Interest and ability to research topics in mathematics, physics, and/or quantum information science
- Ability to apply new concepts to challenging problems through sound software engineering
Desired Skills and Experience
- Extensive experience in Python
- Experience working with data structures and algorithms
- Development experience including software testing
- Experience working in a Linux environment
- 5 years’ industry experience in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field highly desirable
- Gather requirements by communicating with researchers and end users
- Manage project priorities, deadlines and deliverables
- Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and improve software
- Communicate your software designs and tools through documentation and design reviews
Hardware driver and compiler development
You will develop software and hardware solutions to some of the most technically-challenging problems that lie at the intersection of real time computing, automated hardware design and signal processing. You will research and develop software in collaboration with physicists and hardware engineers to provide real-time precision control of atomic systems. The subsystems you will work with range from microcontrollers, FPGAs, and digital signal synthesizers to compiler design and automatic hardware testing systems.
You will have the opportunity to help build a quantum computing platform responsible for abstracting quantum computing resources for multiple users. This requires solving scheduling problems, creating data processing pipelines and solving complex optimization problems, while keeping availability and user experience in mind. To keep up with increasing data rates, you’ll also be extending and scaling our distributed system. This also includes building autonomous tuning/optimization software that incorporates the latest algorithms and methods for optimization, machine learning and optimal control theory.
At ColdQuanta we are building software applications and systems that have never been built before to avoid downtime which is very costly given the demand for access to our hardware for research and commercial use. Our codebase is growing rapidly and we are constantly improving our automated testing and deployment tools. You will have the chance to help extend these automated testing systems and tackle the unique challenges of testing real time software, hardware and numerical analysis libraries.
You will have the opportunity to develop user interfaces and apps for the first quantum applications on a new scalable quantum computer. You will be responsible for building applications that translate real world problems across various technical domains into quantum algorithms that efficiently solve these problems. You will have the opportunity to research and implement cutting edge techniques in quantum circuit design and apply them. At ColdQuanta you will not just be copying another app on the market or improving an existing tool by a few percent, you’ll be building applications that exponentially advance drug discovery, material science and optimization problems just to name a few.
